Trombone & Guitar

TEX,,,The Backwoods Balladeer, The story teller in song.

A life story so unique with no Santa Clause because he shot himself right outside in the yard…At least that’s what his momma said.  ha!  Not all that sad but just that unique as every sunset across the desert sky. One of the last remaining true Singing Cowboys, Tex has a mind like an encyclopedia holding the tattered pages of the Cowboy ways. He’s the keeper of the campfire and dusty trail melodies with their austere lyrics of Senoritas, swindlers and bad guys.  He knows the rivers crossings, Cowboy slang and secrets of the Hollywood stars who stole the stage.

Third generation Texan whose great granddad was a Cowboy on the great cattle drives, Tex has a history of music from an early age actually playing the trombone. His skills awarded him an appointment in the US Army band, then while attending University of Miami Music School he was also principal trombone in the Miami Philharmonic. Thru that position he helped form the 12 year running band, The Impact of Brass, that carried his trombone carrier across the globe. Tex had the pleasure of playing in BB Kings orchestra, has played his trombone for the Queen of England, at Radio City Music Hall, the London Palladium, the Stockholm Opera House and played in the Harrah’s house orchestra for 15 years, where he backed Glen Campbell, Sammy Davis Jr., Debbie Reynolds, Toni Bennett and comedians like Jay Leno and Jerry Steinfeld.

But it’s not so much about what Tex has accomplished with his trombone, but who he’s touched with his guitar that he plays with such an internal elegant flare.  It’s also easier to sing with! He’s the consummate balladeer with his guitar and musical stories he loves to share to whoever has ears to hear.  Mainly it’s the kids he’s been teaching music classes to the last 22 years here in Washoe County that are his treasured audience. He’s given them a truly wonderful music education they’ll never forget.
Past and present students are always popping up, expressing endearment and appreciation.  They’ve had a treasure.

And so do we.

So if you want to learn the trombone, Tex is willing to teach you.
