Originally from Indiana, Charlie started playing guitar at the age of nine. He is known for his solid rhythm backup and tasteful flat-picking.
A Reno resident since 1976, he has taught numerous guitar students locally, as well as instructing at guitar workshops for festivals nationally, in Canada, the UK and Europe. He has taught rhythm and advanced flat-pick bluegrass guitar at Sorrento Music in British Columbia, California Coast Music Camp, CBA Music Camp, and The Mountain Music Parlor, and has also judged the national flat-pick guitar contest in Winfield Kansas.
Charlie is on the Advisory Board of the Mountain Music Parlor, and his self-penned song, “Cold Virginia Rain” was recorded by Josh Williams on his Lonesome Highway CD, performed by Rhonda Vincent and the Rage at the Grand Ole Oprey, and was number one cut on Pine-Castle Records, “Prime Cuts of Bluegrass, Volume #69.”
